After that FIRST medical-pedicure on the balcony, my feet ran TEN kilometers during the marathon of ROTTERDAM. I bought VINTAGE loafers that gave me blisters, and still, I walked a minimal of 20.000 steps DAILY. On the day we are supposed to liberate our feet, I had an appointment with BRENDA; the Feet Whisperer (as I call her). It would be the perfect way to celebrate my first ‘FREE YOUR FEET DAY’.

This time we met in her pedicure salon located inside a NURSING home for the ELDERLY. She was wearing a BUBBLEGUM PINK work uniform and matched it with pink gloves and a face mask. Instead of a nursery home I FELT like entering BARBIE WORLD.

“SHE WAS WEARING A BUBBLEGUM PINK UNIFORM AND MATCHED IT WITH PINK GLOVES AND A FACE MASK.”

Do you remember sitting in front of the mirror at the hairdresser, SEEING your reflection? I had the same experience at the Feet Whisperer, while she treated my feet, I SAW them. And I must honestly admit, they looked bad. Brenda touched my many blisters, two small warts underneath my feet and told me I had a ‘hammertoe’. What does this even mean? I felt HORRIFIED…

“Our feet carry 3 ½ times our body weight when we WALK, Brenda says, it is something we could NEVER do ourselves but we EXPECT our feet to do this heavy task DAILY and we never really thank them for it.”

I had my first “aha moment”; I never THANKED my feet, instead I hide them in the WRONG shoes…

“WE NEVER REALLY THANK THEM.”

Brenda loves working with feet because they are MORE COMPLEX and vulnerable, especially when HIDDEN in socks and shoes most of the time. On the contrary, HANDS are visible so people are more likely to wash them daily, cut their nails, and use hand cream.

I had a second “aha moment”: “HANDS are FREE!” This explains why I couldn’t find any information about an international day for the hands. Exploring the significance of my feet has led me to take a deeper look inside myself. Am I so shallow that I only give attention to things (body parts) that are visible to the outer world?

“I HAD A SECOND AHA-MOMENT: HANDS ALREADE ARE FREE!”

During our chit-chat all kinds of instruments were used to improve the condition of my feet. You could see so much difference already. During our delightful conversation I reacted with an ‘Ah’ or ‘Oh’ on the random facts Brenda shares with me. “Sixty percent of the Dutch doesn’t wear the correct shoe size,” or Like too small shoes too big shoes can cause harm to our feet,” and “After wearing shoes you need to let them dry for approximately eighteen hours before wearing them again.”

I could graduate from FEETARD after listening to the Feet Whisperer. Then I heard myself desperately say; “I truly love my feet, I even mention them in some of my stories,” I had the biggest “aha-moment”. I AM LIKE RAPPER DIDDY, who abuses his girlfriend, denies it and when caught tells that HE LOVED HER.” I NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP!

The FEET WHISPERER hears my cry for help and I leave Barbie World with brochures full information and a FOOT CREAM. After this visit I started thanking my feet for CARRYING me. And of course THAT SAME NIGHT – after applying lotion to my feet – I went online searching for the right SHOES.

P.S.: Do you want to book an appointment with Brenda? Send a message via 06-27 29 20 11. She is located in Rotterdam. When you mention A MORNING IN JUNE your feet get some extra LOVE… And a tip: ask for the PARAFFIN TREATMENT it is BEYOND!  Your FEET will thank you.
